An alumni journey from doctoral research at LIDAM UCLouvain to model based policy work at the European Central Bank.

On 7 April 2026, Prof. Marthe Nyssens was awarded an honorary doctorate by Aix-Marseille University. Congratulations to her for this recognition!

The European Economic Association has announced the winner of the 2026 Hicks‑Tinbergen Award: the paper “The Academic Market and the Rise of Universities in Medieval and Early Modern Europe”. The study is co‑authored by David de la Croix (UCLouvain, LIDAM, IRES), Frédéric Docquier (LISER), Alice Fabre (AMSE), and Robert Stelter (University of Applied Administrative Sciences, Rostock). Congratulations to the entire team for this remarkable achievement!

Trained in economics between Italy and Belgium and specialized in economic history, Chiara Zanardello completed her PhD at LIDAM UCLouvain and is now a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute for Advanced Study in Toulouse at Toulouse School of Economics. She looks back on her doctoral journey, the challenges of academic research, and what future PhD candidates should know before getting started.
