A lecture series on the history of European Integration (Autumn 2018)

LEUSL2043 — History of European integration (interwar’s period to European enlargement) (taught in English)

In Autumn 2018 Wim Weymans and Jan-Willem Brouwer taught an MA class attended by 40 students on the history of European integration. The history of European integration offered several opportunities to highlight the importance of values in the history of European integration (think of solidarity, protection, peace, freedom, prosperity …) and show how they often conflict (e.g. in foreign policy, the recent crises that faced the union or in debates between intergovernmentalists and federalists). Although the class was mainly a lecture-series, there was still occasional room for debate. The fact that the class was attended by students that came from various parts in Europe made these debates particularly lively and interesting.
