IELTS - International English language test

ilv | Bruxelles Woluwe, Charleroi, Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons

IELTS, the International English Language Testing System, is an international English language test for non-native speakers who wish to study, undertake training in English or emigrate to an English-speaking country.

IELTS is a test required by universities in the UK, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the US. It is also required for certain secondary school programmes or work placements, and for certain vocational training courses.

The test is valid for 2 years.

There are two versions:

• Academic module
Intended for those wishing to enrol at universities or other higher education institutions.

• General module
Intended for those wishing to:

  • undertake further training,
  • take the test for professional purposes, or
  • emigrate to an English-speaking country.

Skills assessed

Candidates are evaluated on four skills, with equal weighting:

Speaking ~ Writing ~ Reading ~ Listening

In Belgium

In Belgium (Diegem), the British Council offers several test dates each year.

Test dates, fees and locations

The British Council no longer organises ‘paper-based’ sessions on university campuses, but only ‘computer-based’ sessions at its premises in Diegem
(IPCampus – Twin Squares – Madison Building, Culliganlaan 1, 1831 Diegem).

Students are invited to register individually for the session of their choice
(up to six exams per month, usually on Fridays and Saturdays).

A secure online version is also available remotely every week (from Tuesday to Saturday).
