TestDaF, German as a Foreign Language Test

Since 2001, the Institute of Modern Languages at UCLouvain has been an authorised TestDaF centre in Belgium.

This German as a Foreign Language test is a high-level language examination intended for people who already have a good knowledge of German and wish to have their skills assessed.

According to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages established by the Council of Europe, the TestDaF examination is between B2.1 and C1.2. Candidates are recommended to have completed approximately 700 hours of language study.

The four language skills are assessed separately:

  • reading comprehension
  • listening comprehension
  • writing
  • speaking.

 

 

  • Anyone wishing to undertake or continue their studies in Germany
    and who is required to demonstrate sufficient knowledge of the German language in order to enrol at a higher education or university institution.
    >This knowledge can be demonstrated by sitting the TestDaF examination.

  • International students
    who are required to prove their knowledge of the German language in their home country.

  • Academics planning to spend time in Germany
    at a higher education institution or university,
    and wishing to have their knowledge of German assessed.

  • Professionals in academic contexts
    who wish to demonstrate their knowledge of German in the context of professional academic activities.

Exam dates
Exam dates are set by the TestDaF-Institut and published on its website.
They cannot be changed under any circumstances.
