Education as a compliance mechanism for good governance in sport: the case of GReFORM
ABSTRACT
Τhe growing crisis of legitimacy of sport organisations has led to the need for these organisations to adhere to, and practice, principles of good governance. Yet, recent studies have shown that levels of compliance to such ‘external pressures’ vary across countries and organisations. In this lecture, the reasons and logics of non-compliance are given before a specific set of compliance mechanisms are offered. This becomes possible by drawing on the GReFORM programme that has been developed to provide basic (e-)training for volunteer board members on principles of good governance.
