Context

UCLouvain is a comprehensive university offering, in the context of the present position, the opportunity of cross-disciplinary research and teaching collaborations. Within the Social Sciences and Humanities Sector, the position is attached to the Louvain School of Management and to the Louvain Research Institute in Management and Organizations that offer opportunities for diverse and stimulating teaching as well as an environment to carry out ambitious research.

 

Mission

Teaching

The successful candidate will have teaching assignments in the field of sustainability, sustainability management, and the implications of the social, economic and ecological transition for business management, in line with the positioning of the School and its programmes. The candidate will also teach Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) courses and modules at Master and Bachelor level. Depending on the profile, the courses may include strategy, innovation, change management or leadership in their "sustainable" dimensions. In collaboration with other professors, the candidate will supervise sustainability-oriented business projects in a new project course in the Master's programmes. Part of the teaching can be assigned to the Mons site or to the evening part-time programmes.

 

Research

The successful candidate will develop his or her research activities around one or more of the following topics:

  • At a macro level: e.g., critical perspective on the role of economic growth, conditions for successful green growth…
  • At a meso level: e.g., analysis of alternative business models (circular economy, functional economy, collaborative economy and product-service systems); new forms of governance; societal innovations; how the UN Sustainable Development Goals are taken into account in companies; how to reconcile economic objectives with environmental and social imperatives in companies…
  • At a micro level: e.g., study of lifestyles, values and behaviors of consumers, workers and citizens in relation to transition and sustainability and the actions of companies in this area; how to encourage citizens, employees and consumers to adopt more sustainable behaviors.

The candidate will show an analytical capacity and the ability to initiate and carry through innovative research projects in management science, leading to high-impact publications in international scientific journals. The candidate will supervise doctoral projects in his or her field and apply for national and international research funds.
The successful candidate will benefit from excellent conditions to develop multi-, inter- and even trans-disciplinary collaborations with renowned researchers in the field of sustainable development and transition and with the actors of the UCLouvain ecosystem, in Belgium and abroad.

 

Function

- Be responsible for teaching courses at all study levels (i.e. undergraduate and postgraduate), as well as in programmes of continuing education;
- Supervise the final diploma research (i.e. theses) of undergraduate and graduate students, as well as PhD theses;
- Be involved in (and/or supervise, promote) research programmes;
- Be available to carry out, in the long term, different service activities and take on responsibilities within the University and its entities;
- Contribute to the international visibility of the University through teaching and research excellence;
- Contribute to activities of the University with a societal impact in the fields of the economy, socio-cultural changes or cooperation with developing countries.

 

General conditions

Required Qualifications : the applicant must have

- A PhD degree in Economics and/or management science or any comparable discipline;

- Either studied abroad for an extensive period or have had substantial experience outside his or her university of origin;
- A significant scientific record with international publications;
- Experience in and the aptitude for teaching at university level, demonstrated if possible by formal assessments;
- The capacity to work within a team of teachers and to integrate research findings into teaching;
- Creativity and must be open to teaching innovation and interdisciplinarity;
- The capacities required to undertake high-level academic research: capacity to raise research funds, to supervise projects, to animate and lead a research team;
- Team management and communication skills, including if possible fluency in French spoken and written. Otherwise, the applicant will be asked to acquire it within two years after taking office, in order to be able to communicate and teach in this language. Knowledge of other languages is an additional asset.

 

Specific Qualification

Most master and doctoral courses are taught in English, which is also the language for research publications. The candidate must be fully operational in written and oral English from the nomination.
