RCIS 2019

 

The IEEE Computer Society RCIS 2019 international conference on Research Challenges in Information Science, chaired by Profs. Manuel Kolp and Jean Vanderdonckt (LouRIM/CEMIS - LSM) took place May 29-31, 2019, in Downtown Brussels, Belgium in collaboration with KULeuven/Faculty of Economics and Business.

The 13th edition of the conference is the first one to obtain the technical endorsement (full conference level) of the Computer Society of IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers). This competitive endorsement represents a great achievement to promote RCIS as a high stand conference in the scientific community. The acceptance rate for full papers was 22%. Along with 30 high quality research papers, the 3-days program proposed 3 keynote talks, 3 tutorials, a posters session and a doctoral consortium. RCIS was also supported by the FNRS and FWO, the Belgian National Funds for Scientific Research.

Prof. John Mylopoulos, University of Toronto, Canada, a Peter Chen Award Recipient with a h-index of 90 and 40 000 citations, delivered a formal keynote on "A Refinement Calculus for Requirements
Engineering".

Prof. Jan Bosch, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden, former Vice President and Head of Laboratory at the Nokia Research Center, proposed a visionary industry-oriented talk titled "Towards a Digital Business Operating System" while Prof. Beat Signer, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, focused on a more technical presentation on "Cross-Media Information Spaces and Architectures" for the third invited presentation.

To join the useful to the pleasant, the social program offered a welcome reception at the Horta Brasserie with a private visit of the Comics Art Museum Brussels, both locations designed by famous Belgian Architect Victor Horta, a guided tour of Old Town Brussels and the conference dinner at La Manufacture, a printing house in the past, before becoming the cave of well-known leather goods manufacturer Delvaux.

The 14th edition of RCIS will take place in Limassol, Cyprus, May, 20-22, 2020
