Scientific expertise

The ALPHA platform focuses on the scientific promotion and valorisation of philosophers’ intellectual sources and history, and, in the framework of contemporary history, of major scientific ideas and movements.

It currently includes the archives of the following intellectuals:

  • Belgian writer and artist Henry Bauchau (1913-2012)
  • French philosopher Maurice Blondel (1861-1949)
  • French philosopher and novelist Michel Henry (1922-2002)
  • Belgian philosopher and professor Jean Ladrière (1921-2007)

The ALPHA platform aims to:

  • preserve and enhance the above intellectuals’ private archives and libraries, particularly by encouraging research on their unpublished sources;
  • progressively digitise the collections with a view to preserving their heritage and facilitating their accessibility;
  • maintain specialised libraries attached to the collections, bringing together all the work undertaken on the intellectuals in the scientific and cultural realms;
  • facilitate research by providing researchers with bibliographic and digital tools;
  • stimulate research through annual activities (colloquia, conferences, exhibitions, etc.) and publications (including the Revue internationale Henry Bauchau and the Revue internationale Michel Henry);
  • encourage international research by welcoming foreign researchers to UCLouvain;
  • make students aware of work on literary and philosophical archives;
  • manage archives’ copyright.
