Who and how ? Do you want to apply for a bachelor's or master's degree at UCLouvain? The main admission conditions and the enrolment procedure are explained to you by Loïc in a short video.

Two key dates. Two deadlines have been set for submitting an admission application: April 30 for nationals of a country outside the European Union who do not reside in Belgium and need a visa, and August 31 for EU nationals who do not need a visa. Some international students can still enrol until September 30. More details on the "enrolment calendar".

An online procedure. You can submit an admission application online from the address www.uclouvain.be/enrolment . How to complete the application form is explained in a short video produced by the Enrolment  Office (in French).

Equivalence of your secondary school diploma. Those wishing to enrol in a bachelor's program must submit an online request for the equivalence of their secondary school diploma by July 15 at the latest at this address: http://www.equivalences.cfwb.be/ . Enrolment in a master's degree does not require diploma equivalence.

An open university. For nearly 600 years, UCLouvain has welcomed students from all over the world, regardless of their political or religious affiliation. It is deeply multicultural, multilingual, open and tolerant.

A comprehensive university. From the bachelor’s degree to the PhD, including master's degrees and advanced master’s degrees, UCLouvain offers nearly 300 programmes in all disciplines of knowledge. The courses are given mainly in French, but some 30 master’s programmes can be taken in English.

A renowned university. UCLouvain is one of the oldest universities in Europe and ranks among the 200 best world universities according to international rankings (Shanghai, QS and THE). It is also one of the 200 best performing universities in terms of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) according to THE Impact Rankings.

A university on six campuses. UCLouvain’s main campus is in Louvain-la-Neuve, about 30 km from Brussels, where human sciences and science and technology are taught. Health sciences are taught in Brussels-Woluwe. The university has campuses focus on specific subjects in Mons, Brussels-Saint-Gilles, Tournai and Charleroi.

A stimulating university. UCLouvain attaches great importance to life outside the classroom. It offers many opportunities for social, humanitarian, cultural and sporting involvement. It is also very attentive to the supervision of students and helping them succeed.

Three types of institutions. In Belgium, higher education is organised into three types of institutions: universities, which provide in-depth education linked to research; hautes écoles, which prepare students more directly for a profession; and écoles supérieures des arts (art institutes), which train their students in visual arts, theater as well as performing and musical arts.

Three degree levels. University education is organised into three degree levels in accordance with the so-called ‘Bologna system’. The first, the bachelor's degree, can be completed in three years. The second, the master’s degree, can be completed in two years, and sometimes in one year. The third, the PhD, can be pursued after completing a two-year master’s degree.

Direct programme admission. With the exception of a few programmes (civil engineering, medicine, dentistry, physiotherapy, speech therapy, veterinary medicine), programme admission involves neither a preparatory year nor an entrance or competitive examination. However, each programme has its own admission requirements.

Academic year begins in September. The academic year begins in mid-September (and cannot begin at any other time for any student). Courses take place over two terms, from September to December and from February to May; three examination sessions are organised, in January, June and August.

An affordable education. The tuition fee is the same in all subsidised universities in French-speaking Belgium. Students from one of the 27 EU countries pay €835 per year. Students from outside the EU pay fees that vary according to country.
