Sufis and Colonialism in Africa and Middle East between Collaboration and Jihad – University of Bologna
Michele Petrone take part in the seminar on the relations between Sufis and colonial powers in contemporary Middle East and Africa. The discussion will challenge the paradigm that sees Sufis as opposed to colonialism tout-court and show how in some documented cases (Tijaniyya in Ethiopia), collaboration was a strategy to foster independence from local non-Islamic governments.
