L'éco-hydrologie: comprendre, caractériser et modéliser les interactions sol-racines
Dans un contexte de ressources en eau et en nourriture limitées, la compréhension de la prise d'eau racinaire est importante à différents égards: quantifications des flux d'eau vers l'atmosphère, gestion de l'irrigation, amélioration des rendements des cultures, minimisation des pertes en eau, etc... Nous travaillons grâce à de nouvelles méthodes géophysiques (NMR, GPR, etc...) et de modélisation, à la compréhension de ces mécanismes. Le modèle numérique R-SWMS a par exemple été développé pour prendre en compte les interactions sol-racines à petite échelle.
L'hydro-pédologie: comprendre et modéliser les flux d'eau dans les sols
Bien que représentant une couche extrêmement fine à l'échelle du globe, le sol joue un rôle crucial dans la répartition des flux d'eau entre l'atmosphère et les nappes phréatiques. Or, le sol est un milieu intrinsèquement hétérogène: fissures, macropores, horizons pédologiques sont autant de facteurs qui influencent la distribution et l'importance des flux d'eau et de solutés vers les nappes. Il est dès lors crucial que ces structures soient explicitement prises en compte dans les modèles et que l'information parfois qualitative sur la structure du sol puisse être utilisée. Nos recherches portent sur le développement de méthodes numériques (comme les fonctions de pédotransfert ) ou expérimentales (comme le MSO ) pour améliorer la prédiction des flux d'eau dans les sols.
