Wim Weymans

Since 2018 Wim Weymans is the holder of the Chair in European Values at UCLouvain where he teaches a seminar on "Rethinking Europe" and a class on the history of European integration. He studied political thought and intellectual history (MPhil) at Cambridge University and modern history (MA) and philosophy (PhD) at KU Leuven. His research interests include: ways to improve the EU (e.g. by rethinking its use of "values" and the emotions they provoke, by allowing more opposition inside the EU...), democracy and political representation, political parties, theories of human rights and humanitarianism, the migration crisis, a critical analysis of European higher education policy. He also has a long-standing interest in French political, social and historical theory post-1945. He taught human rights history and theory at Columbia University and philosophy of law at the University of Antwerp (UAntwerp). He was a visiting scholar at the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies (CES), Chercheur invité at Sciences Po (Paris), a Fulbright scholar at UC Berkeley and a visiting scholar at NYU’s Remarque Institute. He has published in journals such as Constellations, Thesis Eleven, History & Theory, Modern Intellectual History and The European Journal of Political Theory.
