Course enrolment entails paying a tuition fee. The fee amount depends on the course you choose and/or your nationality.
These fees are given for information only and may vary according to your situation. Please consult the full fee schedule for the exact amount of your fees. The university has introduced measures to reduce tuition fees in certain cases.
Tuition fees for European Union students
These fees apply to Belgian students, students of European nationality, and students of non-European Union nationality who have Belgian student status:
- Standard fee: €835.00
- Reduced fee:
- UCLouvain social fee: €374.00
- Low-income fee: €374.00
- No tuition fee is charged for students receiving a Wallonia-Brussels Federation scholarship.
In addition to these fees, there are additional charges, in particular for a sport and fitness membership. Note that scholarship students are required to pay these fees.
Tuition fees for non-European Union students
Higher fees
From the 2023-24 academic year, the new circular (no. 2022-002 of 20 December 2022) will apply. This new circular sets higher tuition fees applicable to an enrolment in a bachelor’s or master’s course.
The previous circular (no. 2021-001 of 14 December 2021) is still applicable on a transitional basis for some students. There are two possible situations:
1. Did you start your current cycle in 2023-2024 or 2024-2025?
Then you are subject to the new circular if your nationality is listed in appendix 1. The annual registration fee is €2505.
Exceptionally, some students are exempt from paying the higher fee and are liable for the ordinary fee of €835 if they meet one of the following conditions:
- have Belgian student status (to be proven by the applicant);
- hold an upper secondary education certificate (certificat d'enseignement secondaire supérieur, CESS) awarded by a French Community comprehensive secondary school (de plein exercice) or social advancement secondary school (de promotion sociale) after at least two years of study ;
- be a national of an LDC country or Cameroon, Congo (Brazzaville), Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Swaziland, Syria, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe;
- be the beneficiary of a grant awarded by Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI)
- are enrolling for a PhD;
- are enrolling for the AESS.
2. Did you start your current cycle between 2012-2013 and 2022-2023 inclusive, without a break* since then?
Then you are subject to the previous circular. The annual registration fee is €4,175.
* If you interrupted your studies from 2022-2023 onwards, you will be subject to the new circular when you enrol again.
Exceptionally, some students are exempt from the increased fee and are liable for the ordinary fee of €835 if they meet one of the following conditions:
- have Belgian student status (to be proven by the applicant);
- hold an upper secondary education certificate (certificat d'enseignement secondaire supérieur, CESS) awarded by a French Community comprehensive secondary school (de plein exercice) or social advancement secondary school (de promotion sociale) after at least two years of study ;
- be a national of an LDC country or Cameroon, Congo (Brazzaville), Côte d'Ivoire, Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, Swaziland, Syria, Vanuatu and Zimbabwe;
- have acquired at least 75% of their annual student programme (PAE) at the time of their previous enrolment in the French Community of Belgium (this requirement is not met if the student obtained a diploma at the end of the previous enrolment); this requirement may be covered by a special procedure if the dissertation is finalised; for more information, please consult this document;
- be the beneficiary of a grant awarded by Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI)
- are enrolling for a PhD;
- are enrolling for the AESS.
Application fees
Students from outside the European Union who do not have Belgian student status (except for applicants for a specialised master’s course, PhD, international joint degree course and Erasmus Mundus exchanges) will be charged a €200 application fee once they have confirmed their application online. If their application is accepted, this fee will be deducted from the tuition fee for the course in which they enrol. In all other cases, this fee will not be refunded.
Payment of tuition fees
Payment in cash is not accepted. However, it is now possible to pay the tuition fee via an online payment platform. This platform is accessible via the student's virtual office. It offers two payment methods :
- bancontact;
- bank transfer, which can be made by a relation by emailing bank details.
Attention:
- Payments are handled by our partner MOLLIE (Stichting Mollie Payments), it is thus normal for this company to be listed as the beneficiary of your payment.
- The tuition fee balance payment deadline is 1 February.
- A deposit of €50 must be paid by 31 October. Any membership fees must be paid by 30 September.
