Other types of education can be pursued at UCLouvain. These require special application procedures.
Continuing education
Continuing education studies are for individuals who already hold a higher education degree. They are designed to update knowledge and enrich prior higher education. Enrolment for these courses is managed by the Institut universitaire de formation continue (University Institute for Continuing Education) rather than by the Enrolment Office.

Students-at-large/Stand-alone course unit(s)
Anyone wishing to take stand-alone course units at UCLouvain as a student-at-large student may request authorisation from the faculty in question.
Once authorisation has been obtained, you must complete the special application form and send both the authorisation and the registration form to the Enrolment Office.
Details:
- If you are currently enrolled at UCLouvain, you may take one or more stand-alone course units for a maximum of 30 credits.
- If you are not currently enrolled at UCLouvain, you are limited to 20 credits.
- If you do not have the nationality of a European Union country and you do not have Belgian student status, you cannot take stand-alone course units.
Stand-alone course unit tuition fee:
- 1 to 10 credits: €139.20
- > 10 credits: €13.92/credit
Language class tuition:
- €90.00/class
In the event of cumulative enrolment in stand-alone course unit(s) and language classes for a number greater than 10 credits, language class tuition will apply.
Wallonia-Brussels Federation Higher Education Examinations Board
The board considers applications from those who are unable to enrol on a regular basis at a university and would like to undertake basic bachelor’s or master’s coursework at a university in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation (such as UCLouvain!).
Every June and September, UCLouvain offers one-month sessions of bachelor’s and master’s level coursework. For application and more detailed information, please complete this form, then contact the UCLouvain Enrolment Office on the relevant campus. The board is conducted in French only.
Required documents:
- proof that it is impossible for you to enrol on a regular basis at a university;
- proof of your activities over the past five years;
- certified copy of your certificate/attestation of eligibility for university education, in accordance with anticipated admission requirements;
- certified copy of any post-secondary education diploma(s);
- copy of both sides of your identity card;
- residence certificate.
Application periods:
- January to March 2024 for the June 2024 study session;
- May to June for the September 2024 study session;
- only for students who did not pass the June 2024 study session: from 1 to 31 July 2024 for the September 2024 study session.
Tuition fee:
- €384 for the 2023-24 academic year.
Internships

Once you have applied to the faculty of your choice, you must email the following documents to the Enrolment Office:
- completed special application form;
- signed internship agreement;
- risk analysis;
- copy of identity card.
Competitive entrance exam for medical specialities
As a doctor, you have the opportunity to apply for the competitive entrance exam for medical specialities at UCLouvain.
Follow this procedure:
- contact the Faculty of Medicine (Armand Latevi Lawson) to learn how to obtain registration authorisation;
- submit your application to the Enrolment Office using this form (only available in French).

Certificate of Qualification for the Use of X-rays in Medical Diagnosis
As a doctor, you have the opportunity to take classes as part of the Certificate of Qualification in the Use of X-rays in Medical Diagnosis. The following profiles are concerned:
- general practitioners;
- medical specialists (urologists, cardiologists, pneumologists, gastroenterologists, rheumatologists, anaesthesiologists, orthopaedists and cardiovascular surgeons, neurologists and neurosurgeons);
- medical specialist candidates (same as above).
You must submit your application to the Enrolment Office using this form (only available in French).
