The position is attached to the Faculty of Louvain School of Management and the Louvain Research Institute in Management and Organizations. EQUIS accredited and member of the CEMS and PIMS alliances, LSM was founded in 1897 and became a faculty on its own in 2010. It offers bachelor, master, doctoral and life-long learning programmes at the sites of Louvain-la-Neuve, Mons, Charleroi and Brussels. It has 56 permanent professors, 43 research assistants and 2,500 students.

 

Post description

Within the Faculty of Louvain School of Management and the Louvain Research Institute in Management and Organizations, Social Sciences and Humanities Sector, this position will include the following teaching, research and community service duties.

  • Teaching 

You will teach mainly in the field of governance and management control in the bachelor, master, doctoral programmes managed by the faculty. You will also direct master's theses.

LSM adopts a student-oriented learning philosophy based on interactivity, applied cases, student projects and continuous assessment. Courses are developed using a competency framework. Each teacher deploys an individual pedagogical development pathway. The personal professional development enables each teacher to be effective for different audiences (bachelor, master, doctorate), sites and formats (lectures, seminars, evening classes, MOOCs). 

The standard teaching load for a tenured professor at LSM is defined as follows: one course in the bachelor programmes, one general core course in the Master 120 programme, one master course in the specialisation major associated with an area of research expertise, and an additional course in another programme and/or a course at another UCLouvain site.

  • Research

You will develop your research activities, including the facilitation of research programmes, on the risks and challenges facing organisations in the field of corporate governance today. The following areas of research are some examples :

  • Study of the different governance models of European companies;
  • Behavioural approaches to the functioning of boards of directors;
  • Study of the dynamics of boards and other governance bodies of organisations (of different sizes); Diversity and inclusion;
  • Identification, analysis and management of different types of financial and ESG (Environment, Social, Governance) risks;
  • Information system to support governance reporting, etc.

All types of research approaches are welcome.  

You will demonstrate analytical skills and an ability to initiate and carry out innovative research projects, which will lead to high-impact publications in international scientific journals.  

You will be willing to participate in collaborative and interdisciplinary research.  

You will supervise PhD theses and apply for national and international research funds.  

You will be willing to interact proactively with external stakeholders such as companies, regulators and policy makers, which could lead to the development of projects and chairs...

  • In addition …

Once you are tenured, you will carry out various service activities and responsibilities within the institution, such as being part of a programme committee, an examination or admissions board or taking on other management responsibilities within the faculty or research institute.

You will also contribute to serving society, particularly in the economic, social, cultural or development cooperation fields. Finally, you will ensure, through research and teaching activities, the university’s international visibility.

 

Who we’re looking for

  • Education

You have a PhD in Economics and Management Sciences or a comparable field. You have spent an extended study period abroad or significant experience outside your home institution.

  • Experience

You have a proven track record in university teaching, evidenced where possible by formal evaluations. Your scientific experience is demonstrated by publications of international standing.

  • Skills

You work well as part of a team of teachers and integrate research results into your teaching. You are capable of conducting high-level scientific research, from obtaining funding to team management. You are creative, open to pedagogical innovation and multidisciplinarity.
Most master's and PhD courses are taught in English, which is also the language of research publications.  You must be fully operational in written and spoken English from the start. French is expected to be acquired at last by the time of tenure. Knowledge of other languages is an asset.

 

What we offer

  • Tenure after positive assessment of the probationary period – typically four years. This type of career entitles you to a public sector pension.
  • Appointment as lecturer or professor according to your previous academic experience, as determined by the Rectoral Council.
  • Teaching load capped at 90 hours for a full-time tenure-track position, and 150 hours once tenured.

  • A start date of 1 September 2024 at the earliest.
