Interactions between microbes and minerals occur in a vast array of natural and contaminated environments. In this talk, I will discuss these interactions in the context of processes such as biomineral formation, and remediation of polluted environments. Further I will present a novel set of high resolution analytical techniques that can be used to study the association of microbes and minerals at sub-micron scale resolution and their relevance to biogeochemical cycling of calcium.
