Mission
The Higher Institute of Philosophy (ISP) is currently the entity overseeing philosophical research at UCLouvain. It stands as one of the research institutes within the Faculty of Humanities.
Research Organization
The Higher Institute of Philosophy is organized into centers featuring diverse philosophical themes and methodologies.
Doctoral training in philosophy is conducted under the aegis of the Doctoral School in Philosophy (ED1), in association with the FNRS. As an interuniversity entity, this doctoral school enables doctoral candidates to expand their scientific networks, to learn about scientific communication through interactions with research teams, and by participating in international meetings.
Philosophy teaching for the first two cycles is now managed by the School of Philosophy (EFIL), one of the schools of the Faculty of Philosophy, Arts and Letters (FIAL).For more information about our educational offerings (bachelor's, master's, and doctoral degrees), please consult our sections Information for Prospective Philosophy Students and for Prospective Doctoral candidates in Philosophy.
Communicating research
The daily scientific life of the Institute is centered around the activities and gatherings of researchers, which are organized by its centers (see the sections Events and News, Post-graduate Seminars, Chairs and Prizes) and through the conferences of the Société Philosophique de Louvain (SPL).
Additionally, the Higher Institute of Philosophy publishes two periodicals and four book series (Publications).
