The “24h Vélo” Team training

aide |

The “24h Vélo” Team supports the Cercle sportif étudiants (CSE) in running the “24h Vélo” event through its "stewards" (stadiers): the stewards are the eyes and ears of the CSE! The team is made up of stewards and team leaders.

Each year, our service recruits a large number of stewards and team leaders, who are divided into 2 daytime teams (3 pm-10 pm) and 2 night-time teams (10 pm-5 am).

The steward

Their role

  • The steward welcomes members of the public, provides them with information and helps prevent any disturbances.
  • Being a steward is not about running a security stand or emptying bins - it is so much more than that!

A number of qualities and requirements are expected of them:

  • Be a UCLouvain student for at least one full year, and be between 19 and 30 years of age
  • Be sociable, welcoming and friendly
  • Be able to work as part of a team and take responsibilities
  • Be well rested and refrain from drinking alcohol for the entire duration of their shift
  • Attend a specific half-day training session

The training
A half-day training session is required.
Every future steward will learn how to work as part of a team, how to communicate effectively, and how to stay calm and respond in any situation. Skills that will prove useful for a lifetime!

Expense allowance
An expense allowance of €30 is provided.

The team leader

Their qualities
The team leader must have the same qualities as a steward (or have been a steward in previous years). In addition, we expect them to:

  • Be a UCLouvain student for at least two full years
  • Be able to coordinate a team and make quick decisions
  • Observe, identify and prevent difficult situations
  • Relay information
  • If possible, have been or currently be active in a KAP, a student society (cercle), a regional society (régionale), a youth movement or any similar group.

Their training
The team leader will take part in compulsory, dedicated training in team management and communication to help them carry out their role effectively.

Expense allowance
An expense allowance of €40 is provided for their work.
