Eleonora Frasca is a Ph.D candidate in EU Immigration Law at UCLouvain (Belgium). She is a member of Equipe Droit européen et migrations (EDEM), a research group established in 2011 by Professor Sylvie Sarolea.
Her PhD research, funded by the interdisciplinary GLOBMIG project, started in November 2018 under the supervision of Professor Sylvie Sarolea. From a legal theory perspective, she investigates the implications of the use of soft law instruments in the context of EU cooperation with African countries and reviews legal strategies to counter this trend.
She has been Visiting Fellow at Institut de Droits de l'Homme et de la Paix (IDHP), Université Cheikh Anta Diop in (UCAD) in Dakar, Senegal.
Eleonora holds a Law degree from Sapienza University of Rome and a Master of Science (MSc) from Maastricht University (Maastricht Graduate School of Governance) and the United Nations University (UNU-Merit) with a specialisation in Migration Studies. Her final dissertation was titled “Building bridges instead of walls? The role of non-governmental actors in the Humanitarian Corridors policy process in Italy and France”.
Before starting her PhD, she has worked for the International Catholic Migration Commission (ICMC Europe) on the European Resettlement Network, in cooperation with IOM and UNHCR, and the SHARE project for two years. At ICMC Europe, she worked on the topic of private sponsorship through advocacy, research and capacity building.
