Dwelling on the Future

Pierre d’Avoine runs an architects office based in London and practices internationally with work in the UK, Japan, India, Italy, Ghana, Mozambique, the West Indies and mainland Europe. The work of the practice includes housing, offices, mixed-use developments, landscape and urban design, interior design and public art projects, and has been widely published and exhibited, most recently at the Dostoyevsky Gallery, Moscow, 2018, TU Eindhoven and Die Raum, Berlin in 2019.

Pierre was born in Bombay, India. He studied architecture at the Birmingham School of Architecture in the 1970s and set up Pierre d’Avoine Architects in London in 1979. Pierre has balanced architectural practice with academia since 1985, when he taught at the Bartlett School of Architecture and Chelsea School of Art. He was guest professor at Welsh School of Architecture 2003 to 2009 and at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, School of Architecture, Copenhagen 2009 to 2011. He currently teaches MArch Unit 14 at London Met School of Architecture with Pereen d’Avoine.

The practice has recently been shortlisted, in collaboration with Daniel Olafsson, for the C40 Reinventing Cities Competition for the Gufunes, Reykjavik site. Pierre’s new book Dwelling in the Future: the Seaside, Middle England and the Metropolis was published by UCL Press on 1 October 2020.
