Frequently Asked Questions

Q : I don't have a computer.

You can indicate this on the form sent. You will then have access to a room on site dedicated to oral or written exams.

Q : My computer does not have a camera.

You can indicate this on the form sent to you.  You will be able to take the exams that do not require a camera from home (exams taking place with Moodle or Gradescope). If you are required to present oral and written exams under supervision, then you will have access to the rooms set up on site.

Q : What computer do I need to take a remote exam?

Only remote exams with TestWe and WiseFlow require a computer with specific features: Windows system (from Windows 7) or Mac (from OS X 10.12); 1GB of free hard disk space. Linux computers and tablets are not compatible for these tests. To find out your computer system and available disk space.

Mac. Go to the Apple/About this Mac menu. The system version is shown in the Overview tab; the free disk space in shown in the Storage tab.

Windows. Open an Explorer. In the left-hand column, right-click on "this PC", the Property information tells you the system version.  In the left-hand column, right click on "Disk C:" indicates the free disk space.

Q : My computer does not meet the technical criteria for proctored exams.

You can indicate this on the form sent to you. You will be able to take all the other exams at home. For proctored written exams, you will then have access to the on-site computer rooms dedicated to written exams.

Q : What is a proctored written exam?

Proctored testing is conducted using a devise with random photo taking, a less intrusive system than video conferencing.  The teachers will be able to analyse the photos after the exam and the photos will be destroyed after the session. Moreover, a simple glance to the side, as well as the movements usually observed in a thinking person, certainly does not in itself mean that the student is cheating. Photos will only detect blatant suspicious behaviour, in which case the teacher will contact the student to clarify the situation. Students for whom such a tool will be used will be informed in a transparent manner of how the tool works and those who do not wish to have their pictures taken in their private environment will be able to take the same exam in a room set up with physical surveillance.

Q : I do not want my computer camera to take pictures of my private environment.

You can indicate this on the form you send. You will be able to take exams that do not require a camera at home (Moodle, Gradescope). For all proctored written exams, you will take these exams, under the same conditions, in a room set up and proctored on the university premises.

Q : I don't have a quiet environment to present the distance exams.

As indicated in the form, if you are in this situation, please contact the help desk (aide-sante@uclouvain.be).

Q : I am a PEPS student.

The form sent allows you to indicate this. As for each exam session, your PEPS coach will contact you to set up the necessary arrangements in consultation with your teachers.

If you wish and if you have the possibility, you will be able to take distance exams.  If specific arrangements need to be taken into account, you will be invited to take your exams on site. If your situation excludes an on-site visit, other examination arrangements will be made.

Q : My internet connection goes down during the exam.

An oral exam by Teams requires a stable internet connection. However, the systems used for remote written exams support some instability of your internet connection. The form sent to you allows you to indicate if you do not have a stable connection. If this is a problem for the modality of an exam, you will be able to present the exam on site in a suitable room.

Q : I get sick during the exam session.

In the event of illness, article 103 of the General Regulations for Studies and Examinations applies: "Any student registered for examinations who is unable to sit for one or more of them shall notify the Chairman of the Selection Board and the faculty administration without delay of the reason for his/her absence. At the latest on the day following the end of the impediment, he or she shall provide the faculty administration with the original supporting documents, if any, i.e. a medical certificate or any other document whose probative value is at the discretion of the Chairman of the Selection Board".

Q : I have returned to my country and I will not be able to return to Belgium for the June session.

Distance exams can be taken from anywhere in the world as long as you have access to a computer and the internet.  If you need to take an exam that is held in face-to-face mode, you are invited to contact your Faculty to explain your situation.

Q : I have participated in an exchange program at another university and I must take my exams at that university.

If you are a UCLouvain student and you take you distance exams from Belgium at another university as part of an exchange programme, you can benefit from the same support as students who take their exams at UCLouvain. Therefore, in case of lack of computer equipment or internet connection, access can be given on site in a suitable room. The form that has been sent to you allows you to identify the nature of the problems you are encountering.

Whether you are taking your exams from Belgium or from abroad, it is important to be aware of the arrangements in place at the host university.
