Would you like to come to UCLouvain on exchange? Then here are the different steps you have to complete :
- Nomination by your university for an exchange stay at UCLouvain
- Complete your file on Mobility online (user guide). It is very important to complete all the steps to have a smooth start to the semester!
- Access card: it is important to finalise your file on Mobility online and to send back the completed documents with a photo. If you do this before your arrival, there is a good chance that your access card will already be available when you arrive.
- NOMA (registration number) & FGS: once you have completed your registration on Mobility online, you will receive a registration confirmation containing your NOMA (8-digit number). This enables you to activate your global user account before your arrival. This way, when you arrive, all you have to do is register for the courses and you will already have access to your virtual office, studies, Moodle, computer rooms and libraries.

- Bachelor of Psychological Sciences, general orientation
- Bachelor of psychological sciences, speech therapy orientation
- Master of Science in Psychology
- Master's degree in speech therapy
- Master's degree in family and sexuality sciences
- Courses in English or "English friendly" in the Faculty of psychology (please check the course description by clicking on the course code). In the vast majority of programmes taught in French, some courses are taught in English. It is also common for course materials to be partially or totally in English.

- Your exchange programme timetable: once you have registered at UCLouvain, you will have access to your virtual office and your personalised timetable. (Tutorial)
- French courses: you can take French courses at the Institut des Langues Vivantes. This will help you to integrate more quickly.

Upon arrival
We look forward to welcoming you on arrival. A welcome session for international students is held the week before the start of the academic year.
A faculty information (welcome) session is organised on September 12th 2024, 10:30am, Room SOCR-240 (level -2).
If you have not finalised your application in Mobility online, then you should do this first and foremost.
If you have finalised your file in Mobility online, then you have already created your computer access and you can start your courses.
You will receive your access card at the information session in the faculty. If you arrive later than the first day of the academic year, your access card will be at the reception desk of the faculty, at Mrs Régeane Mathieu's.
On the first day of the academic year, you will be able to connect to the wifi, (androïd, apple). Once you are connected, you can go to your virtual office to register for courses.
Attention: it is important to register on your virtual office AND on Moodle (user guide)
You will also have to complete a "paper" document (PAE) to be handed in at the faculty reception. This is to check that you have not made a mistake when registering on your virtual office.
You can then go to Mrs Wante (room E116) to have your documents signed and sent back to your home university.

During your stay
Any change of course must be approved by your home university and by us. You must modify your Learning Agreement on Mobility online, and have your modified Learning Agreement signed by your university and either Ms Anne Wante (office E116) or Ms Mira de Monge (office C008).
Choose your courses
Language of instruction
French is the main language of instruction at UCLouvain.
As an ERASMUS or international exchange student you will fully participate in the student life and should be able to follow lectures, participate in class discussions (seminars and tutorials), write essays, etc.
Therefore, a B2 level in French (written and oral) is recommended (even though – so far - an official international test is not mandatory).
English-friendly courses
English-friendly courses are courses that are taught in French but offer facilities in English for international students who have a passive knowledge of French. They allow international students to attend lectures that might otherwise not have been accessible to them, while helping them improve their knowledge of French through the input received in the classroom.
English-friendly courses offer at least the following four facilities in English:
- Reading: bibliographical references in English can be provided;
- Questions: students can ask their questions in English;
- Evaluation: students can do presentations, write essays and/or answer exam questions in English;
- Dictionary: students are allowed to use a dictionary (monolingual French dictionary or bilingual French-mother tongue dictionary, as specified by the teacher), including for exams.
Students who want to benefit from these facilities need to make sure that the course has the “English-friendly” label (as indicated in the “Other information” category of the course description) and they should inform the teacher of the facilities they want to benefit from at the very beginning of the course.
Note that English-friendly courses are not bilingual courses: classes are taught in French and teachers are likely to communicate with students in French. English-friendly courses are therefore not accessible to students who have very limited or no knowledge of French.
ECTS and Workload
According to the “European Credit Transfer System”, the regular course workload for a semester is 30 ECTS.
One ECTS credit corresponds approximately to 30 hours of work (lectures, seminars, tutorials, independent study, etc.).
Exchange students may take a few courses outside FIAL, but they will need special permission (for more information, please contact the international exchange coordinator).
French language courses
Language courses are taught at the Institut des langues vivantes (ILV).
As an ERASMUS or international exchange student you can include in your study programme up to two French language courses per term (10/30 or 16/60 ECTS).
If you wish to attend an extra language course, you should request admission directly at the ILV and pay the appropriate fees.
Please note that French language course(s):
- must be included in your learning agreement;
- must be of the same level (if taken during the same term);
- if you choose to include only one course, you are not allowed to take a 3 ECTS course.

All UCLouvain courses have codes composed of 3/5 letters and four digits.
The first letter refers to the campus
L= Louvain-la-Neuve campus
M= Mons campus
W= Woluwe campus
The other four letters refer to the main study programme, the Faculty or, for ILV courses, to the language:
PSP= i.e. study programme in Psychology
LOGO= i.e. study programme of the Logopedia
FRAN = i.e. French language course
The first digit refers to the study cycle:
1 = undergraduate programmes
2 = graduate programmes
The other three digits identify individual courses
