The main objective of this study was to create an innovative iron-based material for bioresorbable stent implants. What you see here is an SEM image of a meticulously polished pure iron sample prior to immersion testing. The underlying goal of these immersion experiments is to establish the lifespan of the implant before it undergoes complete dissolution. The study aimed to discern the critical parameters needed to assess the corrosion rate of the new materials. The results revealed no discernible correlation with surface roughness. The image shows detachment of the corrosion products from the surface after 1 week’s immersion.
