The Institute for Langage and Communication (ILC) brings together researchers specializing in the study of a wide variety of language forms and communicative practices: conversational, scholarly, media, artistic, etc.
Language
Linguists study how language works, whether written, spoken or sign language. They also study how languages vary from one another, and how each language varies according to the context in which it is used. This knowledge can be applied, among other things, to language acquisition.
Communication
We analyze the evolution of forms of communication (based on image, sound, text and their combination) and the role of mediated communication in the organization of institutions and human societies.
Tools
Our researchers study the use of technology to understand how it affects the way we communicate, obtain information, work and learn, and to design the technologies of tomorrow.
technologies of tomorrow.
Discourse
We access language through discourses, which are concrete forms of language, produced in a social, political, economic and media context. Discourse is influenced by context, but it also enables us to modify that context, and thus to act on the world.
The ILC's main lines of research can be seen in the annual annual report, without forgetting the specificities of each researcher.
