The Institute of Health and Society has been recognised as a research entity by Eurostat!

IRSS Bruxelles Woluwe

Why? The recognition of IRSS as a research entity by Eurostat will allow researchers of the Institute to access microdata available from Eurostat, from now onwards.

What? Microdata consist of sets of records containing information on individual persons, households or business entities. Microdata are used in official statistics for the production of aggregate information (usually tables). Access to confidential microdata is restricted in order to protect the anonymity of individual persons or businesses.

For whom?  All researchers of the Institute, hired by UCLouvain can access the microdata for scientific purposes only.

How?  The researcher can submit a research proposal on the Eurostat platform (https://webgate.ec.europa.eu/multisite/microdata/).  The request will need to be validated by the rector and the contact person (President of the Institute).

The project submission includes six items:

  1. Research entity (via an ID number)
  2. Persons who will have access to the data
  3. Purpose of the research proposal
  4. Dataset selection
  5. Results of statistical analysis
  6. Safekeeping of the data

The procedure takes around eight weeks.

Important: All request should be introduced by a person officially hired by the Institute and under the supervision of an academic, also hired by UCLouvain
