ASM acquires a new NMR (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance) spectrometer

PFTPLUS

Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) is one of the most widely used analytical techniques to detect, identify and quantify a large number of organic and inorganic molecules, polymers as well as supramolecular and biological systems.

Thanks to its versatility, such a spectroscopy is increasingly used not only in chemistry but also in the pharmaceutical, environmental, food and renewable energy fields.

As part of the FRS-FNRS_GEQ-2021 Large Equipment call, the ASM technology platform has obtained a funding of € 500,000 for the purchase of a 600 MHz NMR spectrometer, the installation of which is planned for these days.

This new NMR equipment will allow us to achieve a quality and sensitivity in the analysis superior to that of the equipment currently installed in the ASM platform (one 500 MHz and two 300 MHz).

It will also be able to carry out analyses of solid samples and at variable temperatures, something currently not possible.

This equipment will therefore allow to extend the research fields and make NMR even more useful
to all researchers at UCLouvain.
