As part of the Wallonia Plan de relance and the Biogreen Excellence Platform, the MOCA platform recently acquired a Picarro L2130-i analyser under the supervision of Prof. Y. Agnan.
This equipment is an essential tool for research requiring highly accurate and reliable isotopic analysis of water (δD and δ18O).
It contributes to a better understanding and management of water resources, from the study of hydrological cycles to the traceability of water resources, and thus strengthens the capacity of researchers to conduct innovative research and provide high-quality scientific solutions.
The acquisition of this isotope analyser is a strategic investment that will make a significant contribution to our mission of protecting and sustainably managing water resources.
For example, an application developed at UCLouvain monitors seasonal mixtures of river water, rainwater, snow and ice, making it possible to assess hydrological changes linked to the thawing of permafrost in the Arctic. (Hirst et al 2022).
