Many research projects at the institute require the use of human brain tissues mainly to better understand neurodegenerative diseases, but not exclusively. Human brain tissues can only be collected postmortem and offer an opportunity to expand the understanding of neurodegenerative diseases. For this reason, brain donation is a precious gift for our researchers.
Brain donation and body donation to science are two very different processes. Brain donation primarily concerns the brain. The collection process is quick and does not delay funeral arrangements. Its primary objective is clinical and scientific.
If you are considering donating your brain to science, we invite you to contact the anatomy laboratory's secretariat (02/764 5240 or by email Michelle COUGNON; michelle.cougnon@uclouvain.be), who can answer all your questions.
You can also consult the documentation on body donation as well as brain donation on the anatomy laboratory's website.
