PhD training & education

At UCLouvain, a dedicated Doctoral Commission (CDD) supervises all PhD programs hosted in the healthcare sector, subdivided into specific thematic subcommittees for medical sciences, public health, dentistry, biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences, motor skill sciences and neuroscience.

Alongside training and supervision provided by the doctoral commissions, the Institute of Neuroscience is committed to provide training and career development opportunities for its PhD students, including the regular organisation of symposia, seminars and workshops, and the annual IoNS Young Researchers Day organised by and for PhD students and postdoctorate fellows.

Additional opportunities for training and education in neuroscience are provided by the Institute’s affiliation to the European Graduate School of Neuroscience (EURON), the Thematic Doctoral School in Neurosciences of Belgian french-speaking university institutions (EDT Neurosciences), and national scientific societies such as the Belgian Society for Neuroscience (BSN) and the Belgian Neurological Society (BNS).

The Statistical Methodology and Computing Service (SMCS) offers training courses in a wide range of statistical methods and tools, in Louvain-la-Neuve, Woluwé-Saint-Lambert and online.

The UCLouvain health sector organises training in Transferable Skills such as scientific writing, research valorisation, reseach grant writing, leadership and management, and career support.
