Open science

IONS

UCLouvain and the Institute of Neuroscience are committed to anchoring all dimensions of open science at the core of all its activities: open education, open access, open source and open research data.

IoNS data ambassadors. UCLouvain has set up a collaborative network of 28 Data Ambassadors located in each research institutes. They are the local point of contact for all questions relating to research data management (RDM). The Institute of Neuroscience has two designated data ambassadors, Laurence Dricot (head of the neuroimaging platform) and Olivier Schakman (head of the animal behavior analysis platform).

IoNS open-science/open-data working group. The institute set up in 2023 a working group dedicated to developing open science and open data practices in neuroscience, promoting best practices for research data management, and implementing optimized and secure data transfer workflows for clinical data and neuroimaging data collected at the Cliniques universitaires Saint-Luc.

Research Data Management (RDM). UCLouvain has set up a dedicated platform (RDM@UCLouvain) that provides training on best practices, advices, tools and resources to implement FAIR and efficient research data management.

SSS server for research data. The UCLouvain health sector and its research institutes have cofinanced a dedicated mass storage system for the long-term storage of scientific data. The system is highly resilient to data loss and is duplicated on a second cluster hosted in a different building.

BIDS. The Institute of Neuroscience and its neuroimaging platform (NIMA) is promoting use of BIDS (Brain Imaging Data Structure) as a standardized way to organize brain imaging data and their associated metadata according to FAIR Principles.

DIAL. This UCLouvain repository hosts all scientific publications of its members (DIAL@UCLouvain). It also provides digital access to all published PhD dissertations and master theses of UCLouvain.

UCLouvain dataverse. This repository allows UCLouvain researchers to store research data for open-access when use of another public repository cannot be considered, and includes a repository dedicated for data published by members of the Institute of Neuroscience. Research data is assigned a DOI to ensure unique and sustainable referencing. The data are stored on a UCLouvain server. A sustainability of 15 years is assured for all deposited data.

DMPOnline.BE. This online platform is available to all UCLouvain researchers MPonline.be is a platform that hosts several DMP’s template. It is available for every member of the UCLouvain. You can access it via this link, and just login with your UCLouvain login/password, or your ORCid number.
