We are pleased to inform you that Anton SOBINOV (Sensorimotor Bionics Lab, University of Chicago) will give a talk entitled: Towards understanding the neural basis of manual dexterity.

This event will take place on Monday February, 3rd at 1:00 p.m. in the auditorium 51 E (LEW).

Abstract:

“The hand endows us with unparalleled precision and versatility in our interactions with objects, from mundane activities such as grasping a cup of coffee to extraordinary ones such as assembling a clockwork mechanism. These behaviors are enabled by the intricate anatomy of the hand and an expansive, specialized neural circuits in primates. In my research, we investigate these neural circuits using a state-of-the-art experimental setup, which allows for the detailed quantification of object manipulation while recording from motor and sensory cortices. We use the insights obtained in studies with macaques to guide the development of advanced models for invasive brain-computer interfaces. These interfaces restore the ability to control and sense objects for individuals who have lost hand function, enabling them to interact with and feel objects using robotic hands.”
