Abstract:
The main objective is to present a challenge to metaphysical theories of laws concerning the nature of the symmetry principles. We show what is considered to be a symmetry principle in physics and how such a symmetry relates to the laws of nature. Then we analyse five of the most important theories of laws - Lewis's regularism, Lange's counterfactualism, Bird-Mumford's dispositionalism, Armstrong-Tooley's governism, and Maudlin's primitivism - by presenting their difficulties and how they could account for such symmetries.
