Euraxess : Career Development

Are you a researcher seeking to optimise your career?

Are you a researcher seeking to optimise your career?

Researcher career development is central among the various tools of the EURAXESS initiative. EURAXESS Career Development supports you throughout the process, whether you are involved in academic or industrial research, with the help of its career development centres.

At UCLouvain, there is no EURAXESS centre entirely dedicated to the career development of researchers. However, this support is provided by the following departments that help and advise researchers.

Course and Career Guidance Centre (CIO)

On request, the Course and Career Guidance Centre helps researchers with questions about their careers and employability within and outside the academic world, through group guidance (workshops, training courses) and/or individual guidance (job coaching).

The CareerCenter is aimed specifically at people looking for internships or jobs: students, future graduates (master’s or PhD), postdoctoral students, and alumni looking for work and/or changing career direction.

Research Administration Department (ADRE)

In its role of supporting scientific research activities, the Research Administration Department (ADRE) is also a link in the development of researchers’ careers, particularly through:

  • disseminating information about funding and collaboration opportunities;
  • setting up and monitoring research projects;
  • providing information, awareness-raising and advice on intellectual property (IP);
  • supporting entrepreneurial projects (spin-offs, maturity funds);
  • liaising with scientific research and innovation actors;
  • facilitating the interface between companies and universities.

Human Resources Department (ARH)

The Human Resources Department (ARH) has a training catalogue designed to develop the skills of all staff, including researchers, in the following areas:

  • organisational skills;
  • prevention, safety and well-being at work;
  • managerial skills;
  • IT tools.

Career management aims to support the recognition of work and individual skills in the service of the university community, to enable it to meet the constant changes in its internal and external environment.

Particular attention is also paid to the end of academic careers .

UCLouvain Language Institute (ILV)

The UCLouvain Language Institute (ILV) offers tailored language courses, including French as a foreign language courses, for international students and researchers.

Alumni

The aim of the UCLouvain Alumni Service is to create and maintain a constant link between graduates and their Alma Mater, to nurture and perpetuate a strong relationship between the University and its alumni throughout their personal and professional lives. In particular, the service provides support for professional integration and career development.

A page dedicated to careers is also presented by the Alumni department.
