A group of 50 BAC3 students of Social Sciences, Anthropology and Sociology, along with 4 of their ILV English teachers, spent the week-end in London to do field research for their English class presentations and to explore the city.
On the Friday morning students set out to interview passersby on London’s bustling streets to find out what the general British public knew about the specific topic they were interested in. This was followed by a pre-arranged interview with a Londoner who could share their first-hand experience or expertise on the subject, leaving students completely enthused by their meetings with extraordinary people such as a Member of the British Parliament, a street art gallerist or a craft beer brewer to mention but a few.
The weekend continued on with the exploration of London’s inner workings, as the group was given a memorable guided tour of the British Parliament on Saturday morning (we’ll never see the Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesdays with the same eyes again), and a guided walk through London’s West End, its secret back alleys, and some of its oldest historic pubs.
Students also had the opportunity to roam about town in pursuit of their own personal interests, some of them delving into Soho’s exciting nightlife while others made it out to Stamford Bridge, giving each and everyone of them the unique chance of making the city their own.
Back in Belgium students’ presentations on their London research are shaping up and everyone in the LANGL2431 course is impressed with the enthusiasm, originality and competence with which students are sharing their findings and experiences.
