Bas de Geus holds a degree in physical education and movement sciences, as well as a master's degree in rehabilitation sciences and physiotherapy. He obtained his doctorate in physical education and movement sciences, specializing in physiology and health, which he completed in September 2007. Bas de Geus worked as a professor and researcher at the VUB until 2021, when he joined UCLouvain as Professor in the Faculty of Motor Sciences.

In addition to his academic activities, Bas de Geus is also involved in promoting cycling as a healthy and sustainable mode of transport. He is a co-founder of the Scientists 4 Cycling network (European Cycling Federation) and a member of Géri-vélo.
