Programme quality criteria

SMQENS

UCLouvain aims to enable all students to acquire skills for their personal and professional development. In order to guarantee course quality, pedagogical innovation has been established as the guiding principle of its educational and research activities.

The UCLouvain Education and Training Council (CEFO) has established the criteria on which the university bases the quality of the university education it offers to students.

  • Promoting:
    • student autonomy;
    • the acquisition of disciplinary and technical skills linked to research;
    • openness to interdisciplinarity;
    • the development of an analytical approach and critical judgement;
    • the development of social, relational and communication skills (including language learning);
    • the development of entrepreneurial skills;
    • openness to the world;
    • preparation for joining the labour market.
  • Building on:
    • didactic resources to promote in-depth learning;
    • the diversity of learning situations;
    • the pedagogical system (objectives, method, evaluation);
    • valuing teachers’ commitment to teaching;
    • teachers’ pedagogical development;
    • continuous evaluation of teaching and programme quality.
  • Developing:
    • assistance and self-help mechanisms: information, guidance, preparation, diagnosis, social or financial support, etc;
    • course offerings and resources adapted to the specific needs of different audiences;
    • involvement in regional development and international influence.

A similar approach has been taken by the Continuing Education Council (COFC).

  • Defining the target audience in socio-professional terms.
  • Coherence between the overall objective/learning outcomes and the needs of the target audience.
  • UCLouvain faculty contributions during course learning activities.
  • Course integrative dimension.
  • Coherence between the definition of learning outcomes, the pedagogical framework put in place to achieve them, and evaluation.
  • A complete programme description (face-to-face, internship, evaluation, e-learning, etc.)
  • A structured course evaluation system in line with the “course evaluation” file.
  • Competitive tuition fees and a reduced tuition fee policy for certain individuals.

Through the research it conducts, the university provides valuable perspective in a world that favours immediacy. The development of innovation and critical thinking has enabled the university to become part of an international community. Beyond teaching, UCLouvain has established a reputation for the development and transmission of knowledge internationally.

UCLouvain’s visibility, attractiveness and international influence are necessary conditions for the development of excellent research and quality courses.
