A 4-years PhD student Position is available within the laboratory of Hepato – gastroenterology (GAEN/ IREC/UCLouvain)

The exercise physiology laboratory is looking for a PhD student to study the role of myosteatosis in the evolution of metabolic dysfunction-associated fatty liver disease (MAFLD) in mice and in human. More specifically, the PhD student will explore the role of exosomes and inflammatory processes in skeletal muscle-to-liver axis in mice and in a cohort of patients with MAFLD that are subjected to an exercise program or not.

For this purpose, we are looking to somebody:

  • preferentially, but not restricted to, having a master in sport sciences, physiotherapy or biomedical sciences
  • with a good knowledge in exercise physiology
  • rigorous and well-organised
  • motivated to learn new techniques
  • with a good integration capacity in an existing team
  • basic knowledge in western blotting, PCR and/or exosomes isolation is an added value

The tasks will consist in:

  • planning and supervision of exercise training and testing in mice and humans
  • collection and analysis of blood and muscle samples from mice and humans
  • data and statistical analysis
  • redaction of the first draft of the manuscripts and the thesis paper
  • presentation of the data to colleagues and peers in the domain

full time position from October 2022 to September 2026
