We are happy to invite you to the inauguration of the new X-ray microfocus computed tomography (microCT) lab in Woluwe (IREC) on Monday November 21, 2022! To show you which kind of research can be performed on this kind of machine, and before the official opening of the lab, we will organize an afternoon of seminars and short talks. Please see below the agenda. The seminars will take place in room GertyCori A+B (Tour Laennec).

Info about the microCT device:

The new high-resolution (voxel sizes possible ≤ 0.8 µm) microCT system will allow for the non-destructive ex vivo imaging of the 3D microstructure of different biological tissues and organs. This will allow quantitative evaluation of different structural properties (the geometric dimensions, the volume fraction and distribution of different tissue constituents such as collagen, fibrin, myocytes, etc, cavities/porosities or particles. The device also allows the investigation of dynamic processes via 4D-XCT imaging (i.e. imaging combined with stepwise in situ mechanical or thermal loading). A wide range of X-ray source energy (20-180kV) is available for flexible scanning of soft tissues with a low X-ray attenuation, but also to investigate multi-tissue structures with different X-ray attenuations, such as for example bone/muscle/tendon combinations, or tissues combined with metal-based implants. The system is applicable for imaging of different types of biological tissues with sizes up to 240mm in height and diameter, investigated with and without specific contrast-enhancing staining agent required for soft tissues. The machine allows fast imaging, which limits the radiation dose and avoids tissue degradation, dehydration and sample movement during the acquisition.
