The ANCA platform is an animal facility equipped for housing, breeding and experimentation on rodents and fishes.
It mainly houses experimental animals used for research, as well as a few animals used for teaching purposes.
Users of the facility belong to several research teams of the LIBST and IoNS institutes.
Animal welfare
The ANCA platform follows the guidelines of the EU and Belgian legislation regarding animal housing, animal experimentation and mandatory training of users of the facility.
All experimental procedures and protocols are reviewed and approved by the local Ethics Committee of Louvain-la-Neuve campus for UCLouvain (Belgium).
Two part-time technicians are dedicated to the platform for the management of either rodent or fish facility and animal welfare.

A new innovative infrastructure project by 2025
The current infrastructure was constructed along with the creation of the Louvain-la-Neuve campus, and has never known a period of inactivity since the 1970s.
A project to build a new innovative infrastructure allowing compliance with new legislation in terms of animal welfare and to conduct cutting-edge research in animal and environmental biology is underway for delivery in 2025.
