A 4-year PhD fellowship is available the laboratory of Hepato – gastroenterology (GAEN/ IREC/UCLouvain) (published on May 31th 2022)
The laboratory of hepato-gastroenterology is offering a 4 year-PhD fellowship to study the skeletal-muscle to liver axis in driving metabolic dysfunction associated liver disease (MAFLD). We demonstrate profound structural and metabolic changes in the muscle compartment models and patients with MAFLD. The project aims at investigating how the altered muscle triggers immune modulations and how such immune changes are permissive for the progression of liver disease in animals subjected to a physical exercise program or not. This subject is currently a hot topic in diseases associated with obesity such as MAFLD/NASH and diabetes, but in many other chronic diseases as well.
We are looking for someone who holds a master in medicine (MD), a master in sport sciences, physiotherapy, biomedical sciences or related disciplines. Ideally, the person will have a reasonable knowledge background in immunology. Previous experience in immunophenotyping in FACS and FACS analysis will be an advantage.
