What is Open Access ?

Open Access is defined as free access to scientific publications, enabling them to be reused and redistributed. In this way, scientific results are disseminated more widely, benefiting from reduced communication time and increased visibility.

According to UNESCO, a publication is considered open access if :

its content is universally and freely accessible at no cost to the reader, via the Internet or otherwise

The author (or copyright holder) grants to all users, for an unlimited period of time, the right to use, copy or distribute the publication, and appropriate attribution is given.

The publication is deposited immediately, in its entirety and in appropriate electronic form, in at least one widely and internationally recognised open access repository that is committed to open access.

Why deposit / publish in Open access ?

Among the avantages of Open Access, we can underline :

Increase the visibility of the publications

Increase the number of citations

Making the publications accessible to all

Promoting interactions, collaborations and research opportunities between researchers around the world

Deposit in a repository is making sure your work is archived on a long terme basis, given a persistent url (which is not guaranteed on classical web sites, such as the editor's or the academic social networks)
