The university ranking company Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) scrutinised 688 universities in 25 European countries. It ranks UCLouvain first among French-speaking Belgian universities.
QS ranks UCLouvain 68th in its latest ranking of European universities. It is the top-ranked French-speaking Belgian university. In Belgium, UCLouvain ranks third, behind only KU Leuven (21st) and Ghent University (54th).
As for Belgium’s other French-speaking universities, the Université libre de Bruxelles is ranked 80th, the University of Liège 166th, the University of Mons 320th, and the University of Namur 374th.
Oxford ranks first
At the European level, the top three are the University of Oxford, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zürich (ETH Zurich), and the University of Cambridge. Seven British institutions feature in the top ten.
Last June, UCLouvain had already distinguished itself in the QS world rankings, moving up 15 places (read our article).
Nine parameters
Published since 2004, the QS rankings consider nine parameters including academic reputation, employer reputation, number of students per faculty, number of international students, and participation in global research.
This is the first time QS has published a ranking devoted solely to European universities.
