UCLouvain and Hanoi University (HU) have taken advantage of their complementary resources to jointly build a coherent and diversified master’s course that leads to a dual diploma awarded jointly by the two universities and which is legally recognised in the countries concerned:
- 120-credit master’s programme in French and other Romance languages and literature, French as a foreign language orientation (UCLouvain)
- Master’s programme in francophone studies (HU)
This programme, which has been active since 2009, is built on the two universities’ respective areas of expertise. It consists of a component taught at the home university and a series of courses taught jointly at both universities, via an exchange of students and teachers and partial distance learning.

Student testimonials
“For me, the dual diploma experience in Hanoi was above all a very interesting intercultural experience. It was the first time that I went so far away from everything I know, that I left my comfort zone. Being a foreigner allowed me to change perspective; for once, I was the foreigner. I discovered a beautiful country, whose mountains, valleys and fields took my breath away. I left to return to my loved ones, to better appreciate the Belgian air. And to continue to make my way with so many memories, dreaming of travelling again one day.”
Laura Lamfalussy (class of 2014-16)
“The dual degree experience in Vietnam was an enriching experience, especially from a human perspective. It was the first time I’d been to Asia and encountered a culture so different from my own. After a certain period of adaptation where I had to get used to a completely different way of life and way of thinking, I was able to really enjoy my stay. I discovered a wonderful country, where life is good and the people are extremely kind. I was looking forward to my return to Belgium to see my family and friends again, but I also regretted it because I had to leave some very good friends. I only wish I could go back there or discover another country, another culture different from the one I am in now.”
