CEMS PhD Course on Behavioral Finance: Investors, Capital Markets and Corporations

Werner F.M. De Bondt is the Founding Director of the Richard H. Driehaus Center for Behavioral Finance at DePaul University, Chicago, U.S.A. Born in Merksem, Belgium, Prof. De Bondt first studied at the University of Antwerp and the KU Leuven in Belgium. In 1985, he received a Ph.D. in Business Administration from Cornell University (Ithaca, New York, U.S.A). Since the 1980s, Prof. De Bondt has authored or co-authored a series of path-breaking academic articles that have helped to define the new field of behavioral finance. Over the years, Prof. De Bondt has been a faculty member at his alma mater, Cornell University; at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, where he was the Frank Graner Professor of Investment Management (1992-2003); and at various universities in The Netherlands, Belgium and Switzerland.

Program

Prof. De Bondt will teach a comprehensive PhD level class covering the main topics addressed in Behavioral finance.

Session 1: “Investors” [21 June, 14:00 -18:00]

This session reviews the historical origins of behavioral finance, its psychological foundations and what we know about the behavior of investors and their advisers.

Session 2: “Capital Markets” [22 June, 14:00 -18:00]

This session reviews rational and non-rational theories of asset price bubbles, and the state-of-the-art in behavioral asset pricing.

Session 3: “Corporations” [23 June, 14:00 -18:00]

This session reviews behavioral theories of the firm, and considers the nature and quality of executive decisions in many different contexts.

Fees and Registration

Registration is mandatory. In order to participate, send an e-mail to vinciane.claus@uclouvain-mons.be with a proof of payment before June 15, 2017. The number of participant is limited.

Registration fees are:

  • €100 for PhD students;
  • €200 for postdocs or academics;
  • €400 for people outside academia.

These fees cover the access to the three-session course, the course material, and coffee breaks.

Participation is free for UCL members.
