Helminth infections and changing climate: tackling the challenges for animal health (01/06/2023)
Appel transnational/Transnational call : consortium international, chaque partenaire est financé par son agence nationale/régionale : pour l’UCLouvain SPF Santé publique, Sécurité de la chaîne alimentaire et Environnement / International consortium, each partner is funded by its national/regional agency: for UCLouvain Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment (FPS).
Call Thematic areas:
- Research Area 1: Research to improve understanding of anthelmintic resistance mechanisms, the impacts of anthelmintic resistance on livestock health, and the development of tools to help diagnose, prevent, and manage it.
- Research Area 2: Research to increase understanding of the impacts of climate change and vector borne diseases on animal health, including the development of tools to prevent, prepare and respond to animal health emergencies triggered by climate change.
- Research Area 3*: Research to support the development of novel and improved vaccine and diagnostic tools and platforms, as well as research to assess the utility and efficacy of existing technology platforms. (*not supported by FPS)

Nous tenons à vous informer que l’appel transnational ICRAD 3 - Helminth infections and changing climate: tackling the challenges for animal health est ouvert. Ce troisième appel de l'ICRAD se concentrera sur l'impact des infections aux helminthes et sur l’impact du changement climatique sur la santé du bétail. Cet appel porte également sur le développement de stratégies de contrôle telles que de nouveaux vaccins et technologies de diagnostic.
L’appel est dit transnational car le consortium sera international avec chaque partenaire financé par l’agence de financement nationale/régionale auprès de laquelle il est éligible. Pour les équipes UCLouvain, le bailleur de fonds est SPF Santé publique, Sécurité de la chaîne alimentaire et Environnement.
- Soumission des propositions pour le 01/06/2023 (pre-proposals) 04/12/2023 pour les full-proposals)
- Consortium: minimum 3 partenaires issus de 3 pays différents participants à l’appel.
- Chaque partenaire du projet est financé par l'agence de financement nationale/régionale participante.
Pays/régions participants : Belgium, Estonia, France, Ireland, Latvia, Poland, Türkiye, United Kingdom - Chaque agence de financement a posé ses propres règles de financement.
- Durée d'un projet: max. 36 mois.
Règles et documents SPF :
- Attention ! le SPF ne participe qu’aux Research Areas 1 « La résistance aux anthelminthiques » et 2 « Les impacts du changement climatique et des maladies à transmission vectorielle sur la santé animale ». Les projets sur l’axe 3. « Le développement d'outils et de plateformes de vaccins et de diagnostic » ne sont pas financées par le SPF.
- La partie belge de la recherche doit s'inscrire dans les compétences de la Recherche Contractuelle. Le sujet de recherche doit relever du domaine de la santé animale. La recherche doit soutenir ou aider à préparer la politique belge dans ce domaine. Plus précisément, cela signifie que la recherche doit fournir des connaissances qui soutiennent le gouvernement, en particulier le SPF Santé publique et l'Agence fédérale pour la sécurité de la chaîne alimentaire (AFSCA)
- Le budget maximal 150,000 EUR max par projet
- Coûts éligibles
- Frais de personnel (les coûts des promoteurs académiques ne sont pas considérés comme un coût éligible).
- General Operating Costs: taux forfaitaire de 10% des coûts de personnel (15% en cas de coordination)
- Specific Operating costs : Des Coûts de fonctionnement spécifiques peuvent être prévus pour l’exécution de tâches spécifiques au projet
- Overheads=PAFG (à prévoir !) : 10% de la somme coûts de personnel et frais de fonctionnement
- Subcontarcting : max. 25% du budget du partenaire belge
- Il est fortement recommandé de contacter Dr. Valérie Van Merri savant de soumettre une pré-proposition.
- En parallèle de la soumission en seconde étape, les promoteurs et promotrices belges retenu·e·s pour déposer une proposition complète en seconde étape devront remettre un dossier administratif et budgétaire auprès du SPF avant le 4 décembre 2023 15 :00. We are pleased to let you know that the transnational call for proposals ICRAD 3 – Helminth infections and changing climate: tackling the challenges for animal health is open.
This third ICRAD call focusses on the impact of helminth infections and climate change on livestock health, together with development of control strategies such as novel vaccine and diagnostic technologies.
This call for proposals is transnational i.e. the consortium shall involve partners from different countries ; each partner will be financed directly by its national/regional funding agency. i.e. Federal Public Service Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment (FPS) for UCLouvain.
- Pre-proposal submission deadline 01/06/2023 (04/12/2023 for full proposals)
- Consortium: minimum of 3 eligible and independent partners requesting funding from participating funding organisations from at least 3 of the following countries
- Each partner is funded directly by its regional/national funding agency.
- Participating countries/regions : Belgium, Estonia, France, Ireland, Latvia, Poland, Türkiye, United Kingdom
- Each national/regional funding agency has its own financial rules.
- Project duration: max. 36 months.
FPS specific Rules:
- IMPORTANT: FPS only participates in Research Areas 1 “Resistance to anthelmintics” and 2 “The impacts of climate change and vector-borne diseases on animal health”. Projects under on Research Area 3. “Development of tools and platforms for vaccines and diagnostics” are not supported by the FPS.
- The Belgian part of the research must fit within the competences of Contractual Research. The research topic should fall within the field animal health. The research must support or help prepare the Belgian policy in this fields. More specifically this means that the research must provide knowledge that supports the Government, in particular the FPS Health and the Federal Agency for Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC)
- Maximum budget : 150,000 EUR/project

- Staff costs
- Operational costs
- General/Standard operational costs (10% flat rate of personnel costs (15% in case of coordination)): include normal expenses related to the research activities (e.g. ordinary supplies, consumables, office supplies, documentation, travel expenses, use of computers and software).
- Specific operational costs are directly related to the research activities (e.g. usage costs for equipment, maintenance costs, costs for analyses, subcontracted work).
- Overhead = PAFG (mandatory!) General costs include costs for administration, phone, postage, the maintenance of the premises, heating, lighting, electricity, rent or insurance)= 10% of the total staff and operating costs
- Subcontracting : max 25% of the total budget allocated to the Belgian partner concerned.
- It is strongly advised to contact Dr. Valérie Van Merris prior to submission of your pre-proposal.
- Belgian applicants invited to submit a full proposal (phase 2) shall introduce at the latest on 4 December 2023, 15:00 CET the national information sheet and their budgetary tables to FPS Health. Templates are available on the Contractual Research’s website
