PhD Student position: Role of Liver Progenitor Cells in Liver Cancer

The laboratory of Hepato-Gastroenterology is seeking a PhD student to work on the (patho)physiological role of liver progenitor cells in liver cancer and regeneration. The objective of the PhD is to investigate whether and how those immature and highly proliferative cellscontribute to cancer development and aggressiveness in relevant mouse models of hepatocellular carincoma.

The research group is located in the Institut of Recherche Expérimentale et Clinique (IREC) of the University of Louvain Medical School (UCL, Belgium) situated on the Brussels Campus, close to the Cliniques Universitaires Saint-Luc.
The candidate must hold a Master’s degree in biological, pharmaceutical, medical, bioengineering sciences or a related discipline. A Télévie funding has been submitted for this project, but the applicant could be asked to apply for a FRIA PhD grant for alternative support.
Starting date would be September 2017. Salary (PhD fellowship) is in accordance to standard Belgian regulation.
