The university wants to be a fully committed actor in society. It does this in particular by organising or joining in civic actions that correspond to its values.
These actions, whether they concern fighting poverty, environmental protection, supporting research, defending freedom and democracy, or aid for refugees, are carried out in close collaboration with students.
Thus the university and its students commit their expertise and dynamism to meeting the great challenges of our time.
Supporting refugees
UCLouvain takes part in Higher Education in Emergencies, a global movement that aims to make higher education more accessible to refugees. UCLouvain’s refugee support projects are led by the pro-rector for international affairs, who is responsible for human rights, Prof. Dana Samson.
Scholars at Risk
Scholars at Risk is an international network of institutions and individuals whose aim is to protect teachers and researchers at risk and to defend academic freedom.
UCLouvain has been a network member since 2017.
Solidarity Card
Created by the NGO Louvain Coopération, the Solidarity Card allows students to support social or humanitarian cooperation projects.
One Billion Rising
Every February, UCLouvain mobilises to confront violence against women with the One Billion Rising movement.
Télévie
Télévie raises funds to advance research in the fight against leukaemia and cancer in children and adults. Every year, UCLouvain mobilises to support this social action.
