A fourth Galen Prize awarded to the FATH Pole

Bruxelles Woluwe

Since 1982, the prestigious Galen Prize acknowledges the best Belgian researchers in pharmacology. This year, our Institute is proud to announce that Cyril Corbet, researcher at IREC’s pole of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (FATH), received the 2019 Galen Prize for his research on the targeting of cancer cell metabolism. The objective of Dr. Corbet's research is to identify therapeutic solutions that exploit the acidic environment of cancer cells.

This is the fifth Galen Prize awarded to a member of IREC. Previous IREC’s Galen Prize awardees are Pr. Jean-Luc Balligand (1996), Pr. Olivier Feron (1999), Pr. Olivier Devuyst (2003) and Pr. Pierre Sonveaux (2009). These achievements testify to the excellence of the research projects conducted by IREC members and to the importance of the results obtained for the development of new therapeutic approaches.
