Core courses [75.0]
The study program (blocks 1 and 2) listed below is based on the latest reform of the Master's program in ancient and modern languages and literatures, and applies to students enrolling for the first time in September 2025 in the 1st year of the Master's program in ancient and modern languages and literatures.
Students enrolled in the 1st year of the Master's program during the 2024-2025 academic year who have not acquired all the credits in their annual program will follow a program adapted by the jury according to the credits acquired.
Students who began their course before September 2025 will follow the old program, but with content adjustments following the reform. The adapted program for these students will be drawn up by the jury on the basis of the teaching units already taken and passed.
From 2025-26, the didactic final year is no longer offered. Students who were enrolled before 2025 may re-enroll and have two years to complete the program (2025-26 and 2026-27). Students re-enrolling in 2026-27 who have not obtained their diploma by the end of 2026-27 will have the academic year 2027-28 to validate the missing teaching units. If the diploma is not obtained in 2027-28, they will continue their studies in a Section 4 Master in Teaching.

The aim of this specialization is to acquire a comprehensive knowledge of the publishing and bookselling professions, particularly in the French-speaking part of Belgium. The teaching units (in the final year and in the option offered as an extension) examine the cultural goods industry in the context of the industrialization of the book market and the sector's move towards digital media.
Students wishing to do so may combine this course with an Erasmus or Mercator stay, provided they take both courses at UCLouvain.
Students planning mobility, either in Q2 of Block 1, or in Q1 of Block 2, may carry out one of the two internships during their Erasmus or Mercator stay, subject to the agreement of the person in charge of the specialization, on the basis of a specific, articulated project; in this case, it is strongly advised to carry out the internship in the French-speaking world (Belgium, France, Luxembourg, Canada, etc.).
