History, Art History, and Archeology

FIAL

The PhD in History, Art History and Archeology is the highest level of study in these disciplines in Belgium. It is made up primarily of a defense of a thesis in history, art history or archeology, which is an original, critical work of appropriate size and includes academic sources, and leads to innovative results for the knowledge of human beings and past societies.

This thesis is written under the supervision of a thesis supervisor or “promoteur”, who is a professor at UCLouvain, with the possibility of co-supervision from another UCLouvain scientist or another scientist outside of UCLouvain.

Doctoral candidates must complete doctoral training through ED4, the doctoral school for the French community, according to their set requirements adapted by the CDD in History, Art History and Archeology. The framework for the completion of this doctoral thesis (including possible funding) is subject of an agreement by the existing CDD.
